Below, I highlight a few of my leadership and service activities.
- Executive Director, Trinity Global Leadership Initiative (2019-2021)
- Program Chair, Global Affairs (2015-2021), History (2019-2021), and Political Science (2019-2021)
- Co-Chair, Academic Executive Committee (2024-present)
- FOIA Advisory Committee (2018-2022)

Executive Director, Trinity Global Leadership Initiative
From 2019-2021, I served as Executive Director of the Trinity Global Leadership Initiative, a university-wide effort to infuse global affairs and leadership programming into all academic units across campus. My duties included:
- Leading an effort to transform our existing international affairs major into a global affairs major that would better help students to enter into global career paths
- Facilitating dialogue on globally-oriented degree programs across campus
- Running a series of speakers and activities to promote discussion of global affairs
- Administering a grants program for faculty to create new globally oriented courses and infuse global themes into existing courses
- Administering a summer grants program for students to pursue research and internships in global affairs
- Helping to design partnership programs with institutions in the DC area, including the CSIS-Trinity Fellowship, a semester-long experiencne for Trinity students at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, the #1 ranked think tank in the United States
Program Chair (Global Affairs, History, Political Science)
I served as program chair for the International/Global Affairs program from 2016-2021, and as program chair for History and Political Science from 2019-2021.
As program chair, I led a re-design of all three majors. International Affairs was rebranded as Global Affairs beginning in 2021. We created four new areas of concentration that appeal to Trinity students and prepare them for careers.
There are also requirements for mentorship courses and experiential learning. Here is an overview and a more detailed description of this curricular work.
The history and political science majors were also redesigned to include mentorship courses, experiential learning, and a new senior seminar and thesis requirement.

Co-Chair, Academic Executive Committee
Since 2024, I have served as the faculty co-chair of Trinity Washington University’s Academic Executive, the body responsible for coordinating academic governance on campus. This committee coordinates governance amongst Trinity’s many faculty committees, reviews and sends academic policies to the Academic Assembly, and provides a forum for consultation on pressing academic and other issues. The Provost serves as the other co-chair.
FOIA Advisory Committee (2018-2022)
In the 2018-20 term, I led the writing of a recommendation (2020-14) on so-called “first party” FOIA requests. This led to an August 2021 OGIS report on commonly requested categories of first party requests, which a working group is following up on in the 2020-2022 term.
In the 2020-22 term, I served as co-chair of the Subcommittee on Classification. We worked on the issue of Glomar (“neither confirm nor deny”) responses to FOIA requests, practices on marking classified documents, and other issues.
